i used to feel like my bones
were growing faster than my skin
had time to stretch

i imagined my skin
hugging against the rounds
of my expanding bones
coating them
in shiny flesh
about to rip

my sore knees kept me up at night
growing bones
trapped in skin
two sizes
too small

sore knees explores the complexity of stepping into self-inflicted grief in the pursuit of self-discovery.
